Tea Time in Jacquemus
Last week we had reservations to go to to a restaurant called Sketch. Sketch is one of London’s most instagrammable restaurants, and one of the most pinned restaurants on Pinterest. The restaurant is so popular it took us nearly two weeks to book a reservation.
Sketch says exactly this on their website regarding:
Dress code: Art Smart
“We ask our guest to dress with a sense of style and character.” Shorts are not permitted.
Now for obvious reasons, the color pink is something the majority of people will wear when coming to a place like this. My first thought was a babydoll dress because everything is so delicate and dainty that the dress would flutter right in. The color white is also a no brainer, or any primary color for that matter. When the backdrop of a restaurant is 90% pink you will definitely stand out wearing any primary color that contrasts.
The term “character” really stood out to me. I got to thinking of patterns, jewel tones, and fun hats; scanning my closet for whatever I could find. Hmmm…What can I wear that that will draw attention, but not too much attention, but enough attention?

The Jacquemus brand is full of personality pieces. Nothing screams “characters welcome” more than a teeny tiny bag that can barely fit a quarter inside; or an oversized straw hat that almost covers your entire body. This brand took 2018 by storm with lots of larger than life statement pieces, or should I say not so large..
The restaurant is Sketch is elegant, highly stylish and in all ways top of the line in food and drink. At the very same time, it is also playful, tacky, and relaxed in the acceptable setting. For example; the sayings on the tea cups, are sarcastic; The bathrooms are playful toilet pods resembling eggs straight out of Jurassic Park; The artwork is tacky, similar to a child drawing with a crayon.
These are the exact same CHARACTERistics (see what I did there ;) Jacquemus has when it comes to thier brand. Items are luxurious in quality, and playful in design. Pairs of shoes are made as opposites on purpose, handbags have odd shapes and sizes; yet textures are luxuriously heavy gliding nicely across the body and the colors are rich and bold.

“elegant and highly stylish, yet playful and relaxed.”
So it was decided! I grabbed Jacquemus mismatched heels and top handle tote and threw them together with bold contrasting colors. My Pink blazer came with a green handkerchief when I bought it. I always knew I was going match it with my kelly green Yankee hat. Which by the way I forgot to pack and had to find a similar one in Picadilly Circus. The trousers came from Zara in the same matching green and the jewelry pieces brought the entire look together. I particularly love wearing the Jacquemus slingbacks because they make this important click clack sound with every step. That said, I was now ready click clack in my heels and clink click a champagne glass!
